Styled Shoot at Duluth Cider

During the doldrums of March, we took a week to spark creativity and style a photo shoot! We worked with a handful of local vendors and kept it simple. Our initial brainstorm had us excited about a casual brunch wedding and we ran with it!! Not every wedding needs to be the whole shebang. Maybe you just have brunch with 25-30 of your closest friends and family at your favorite Cider house or restaurant. Add some florals, a cozy ceremony site and some yummy caramel rolls and call it perfect.

Thank you to our shoot partners for working with us to pull this together quickly, your contributions were clutch! We are so lucky to have amazing local business owners willing to share their love for our art.

Let’s dive in…..

Superior To the Core

Venue | Duluth Cider | @duluthcider

The cider buzz hit NSE hard this winter with the opening of Duluth Cider in the Lincoln Park Craft District. It became a frequent location for date nights and happy hours. It took us about 2 seconds to start thinking about how the space could be used for an event and we were stoked when Valerie and Jake say “sure” to our request to use the space for a shoot. We hope it brings many private rentals and weddings to their doorstep. We love their modern geometric details, paired with preserving the historic grit of the building. It’s a phenomenal space…..the cider kicks ass too!

Pretty, living, things…

Florals | Superior Blooms | @superiorblooms

Our sister company Superior Blooms created a floral vision perfect for a late winter / early spring vibe. Working with a color palette of mustard, navy and champagne we chose gorgeous sahara roses, tulips, pampas grass, thistle, mimosa, grevilia, ferns, and eucalyptus in a hand-tied garden style bouquet and it just WORKED. Sweet, earthy, original….the type of bouquet the bride never wants to leave her hand.

You ask, who’s our darling “Couple?” and what are they wearing??

Wedding Gown | Various | @amazon @millerhillmall

Menswear | Mainstream Fashions for Men | @mainstreamduluth

You might recognize our bride as Sydney, the Superior Blooms manager! Her handsome groom, Cole, was nominated by his Aunt (one of our florists) to model for us and he played the role with ease. They looked like a match made in heaven.

You might not believe it, but Syd’s “wedding gown” is a DIY combo of a $30 ivory tulle skirt from Amazon ( ) and a $6 dress off the clearance rack at the mall! Throw in a $20 pair of blush suede flats from Payless and good to go. We loved using creativity to put her casual wedding look together and it truly shows what out of the box thinking can get you.

For Cole’s look, we turned to our friends at Mainstream Fashions for Men in Duluth. Layering a navy plaid shirt with a thin taupe sweater gave the groom options. A blue tweed jacket added the perfect amount of formality. We loved the sharp brown shoes that topped it all off. All of these pieces could be worn on their own in an every day wardrobe, a major selling point for the practical couple.

Now, let’s talk more about that ceremony backdrop and that DOG.

Backdrop | Bailey Builds | @baileybuilds

As we design events, we’re always thinking of ways to incorporate treasured objects. Things that the coupe can enjoy in their married life. This thought sparked our design for our ceremony backdrop. Why not purchse an incredible piece of art from Bailey Builds and then repurpose it in your home after the wedding. Seems like a win-win situation to us! We instantly fell in love with this piece and knew it would be perfect for our vision! Couple with a geometric rug, some vintage crates, greens and grasses and BOOM, picture perfect ceremony.

So, the dog. His name is Surly and Sydney is his mama. He’s one giant puppy and the sweetest, biggest stinker you can imagine. Incorporating fur babies in weddings is a MUST, at least for the photos! Put some flowers around their neck, and the cuteness increases exponentially.

Let’s Do Brunch.

Yummy things | Great Harvest Bread Co. |

Decor | Northland Special Events | @nse_events

There’s something so charming about gathering for Brunch and why not do it for a wedding? Serve Cider-mosas, quiche and caramel rolls. A hot cup of coffee, a stick of bacon….what could go wrong?

We had some fun taking photos in the Duluth Cider Production Facility and along Superior Street. How about an after party at Ursa Minor or Bent Paddle? So many hot spots in the area to enjoy with your nearest and dearest. Scroll to see more.

Nice shots.
